How Fluffy Meadow Started
My name is Laurie and I'm continuing on my rabbit journey were my kids left off. My rabbitry started in 1997 as a 4H adventure for my kids. I was challenged to find something to occupy their time, as well as educate them and teach them values and responsiblity. I found the wonderful world of 4H and grew along with my kids. We started our journey with a trio of Mini Rex for each of our 3 kids. Wow what a journey it's been Mom, became an assistant 4H leader and my kids, blossomed with all that 4H as to offer. They learned how to care for their bunnies, breed their bunnies, calculate, when the litters would be due, by maintaining records, they did community service and my most memoriable moments would be helping Dad, calculate measure and build our Rabbitry. Yes; lots of fond memories. We eventually moved out of Mini Rex and discovered a bunny, with a little fluff and more care Katie, found the AFL and all of us fell in love. Which was soon followed by the jersey Wooly, EA and holland lop. In 2002, we knew we were hooked and decided to join ARBA and register our Rabbitry. Mom decided, since after an angora grooming session, our yard looked like a big fluffy meadow~it just clicked that our Rabbitry would forever be called "Fluffy Meadow". My kids, continued to breed and enjoy their bunnies, than tragedy struck in April 2005; we got hit be a freak flood, that hit most of NY. Sadly we lost everything we worked so hard accomplishing. It was so hard to come back here and know that you lost so much, in such a short period of time. It hit my kids, as hard as me, we couldn't bear to see the devastation and realize our dream was gone. My kids now teenagers didn't want to continue on. Mom somehow knew she still had the bunny bug. As you can see from visiting my site, I'm back up and running the rabbitry. My kids still have some bunnies. They did try and get back the love they once had but it just wasn't the same. Each of my 3 kids, still have some bunnies, but it will never be what it once was. I'm continuing the bunny journey, raising my true love the wool breeds. Oops forget to mention hubby, God Bless is sole, he puts up with my treasure finds and helps with anything I may need. The story of Fluffy Meadow can't end unless I thank the many on line friends and close friends that I enjoy and share this awesome hobby with! The best and greatest joy is sharing and enjoying bunnies with someone.
